Long-winged Conehead Bush-cricket (Conocephalus discolor)

Long-winged Conehead Bush-cricket (Conocephalus discolor) at Shirebrook, Nottinghamshire,
September 4, 2012 (all above)

The above site is close to the northern limit in the UK and lies within a large area of grassland and woodland recovered from a former coal-mining site. Several coneheads were calling within a small area of Juncus but were very difficult to locate and even more so to photograph. This male eventually appeared in the open after a two-hour wait.

Late season nymph

All four above, Monkwood Green, Worcestershire, September 15, 2013
